I’m not the only one in the family who needs to lose weight; poor little miss spirit has the same fat genes as me. Since the grass started coming through she has been going out in a muzzle 24/7 and I hate it. I feel so sorry for her having to wear it; I’ve bought them in on occasion just so she can have a bit of a break from it.
I am probably ignoring the whole point of restricting her though because I put hay in her stable whilst she’s in. you all seen the pictures of her and she is definitely no slim line and after seeing the mini Shetlands at the Norfolk show last week I know they don’t all have the belly thing going on (yes there was a part of me that thought it was the way she was naturally).
So while I was at the tack shop yesterday I picked up a smaller grazing muzzle –or so I thought- once I got it home though it looked like the hole had been cut in by hand. Still I thought I would compare it to her old muzzle. Oh my, no wonder she hasn’t exactly dropped any weight the hole on her old muzzle has worn and got bigger.
In fact it’s not much smaller than her actual mouth; she does have the cutest little muzzle. so after trying the new one on and not liking the fit it was a bit too snug where as her old one was almost like wearing a bucket with a hole in. I put her old one back on, but I couldn’t help thinking hmmm really what’s the point it’s obviously not stopping her eating as much.
So this morning I have taken her muzzle off, but restricted them to one of the smaller paddocks. And decided to order her a new one like she had, hopefully this one will have a smaller hole and actually make a difference to the amount she can graze. Until then though I don’t really want her accessing the fields I’ve been resting.
Rather annoyingly the two bigger fields she can still get through the fence on, so I’m going to have to keep them in the two smaller fields overnight. And then shut the off during the day. I still can’t really do any exercise with her at the moment either at least not until she has finished the course of antibiotics.
Nas’s weight I’m not so much worried about once he comes back into work again he tones up pretty quickly. Which I am about to head out begin, last week he was lunged a couple of times just in a head collar, but today we are going for the whole shebang with side reins and possible even boots. The clock is ticking on the cross country now and we both need to be a lot fitter.
Which reminds me, I need to start walking the dogs again, I’m just not keen them getting into the car now we don’t have leather seats.
