Why don’t I listen to what I preach…? And why does everything go out the window when I’m ill. It’s not fair (yes if I had the energy I would be stamping my feet). Yesterday I was all set for a very positive family themed Sunday. We had hot cross buns for breakfast (mistake no.1). We then went on a walk to find the railway track; it’s a 15mile track that runs along the back of us. We did a 3mile round trip which is handy, now I can walk the dogs for longer and not have to muddy up the car.

The day initially looked promising when we headed off, it didn’t hold and quickly turned to rain, we hadn’t bought waterproofs (mistake no.2). When we finally got back we were wet, cold, tired, and hungry. Just generally miserable the weather still looked bleak. So I didn’t much fancy going out and spending time with NAS (mistake no.3). It was a bit early to start cooking dinner; Horatio was munching on candy… He then asked for a bowl of crunchy nut cornflakes.

I then lost all control (mistake no.4). It started with some hula hoops, peanut butter on toast, popcorn, and rich tea biscuits with cup of tea. It was then i realised that what I thought was hay fever earlier in the week, was actually the beginning of a horrible head cold (mistake no.5). I felt rough my head just seem to explode my muscles ached and I spent rest of afternoon sitting on my butt doing nothing.

Until I finally dragged myself into a bath to warm me up. We then cooked dinner – roast pork – followed by a choc ice for my then burning throat. Needless to say I didn’t have a very late night. I am glad to report though I didn’t eat after dinner, i was hungry though. I noticed this last week roast dinners are like chocolate to me there is no limit to the amount I can eat. They just don’t seem to keep me full up. Still they are one of my favourite meals.

It got me thinking though maybe Sundays aren’t the best time for me to have a roast. We usually have them mid to late afternoon, which leaves me open for snacking in the evening. I find the only time I don’t snack or lose control is when I am full up. I know that probably doesn’t sound much like rocket science. What I mean is once I start snacking I eat way beyond the full feeling. It’s almost like an obsession to get as much in as possible. Where if I am full up from a meal, I don’t even think about snacking.

Mistake solutions

  1. The hot cross buns should have been yesterday’s treat not a meal. (Need protein to sustain).
  2. Be prepared for all weathers.
  3. Even if I had spent 10mins brushing him, would have been enough to get me out of my funk.
  4. Should have just accepted I was going to eat something and not got so hungry I lost control.
  5. Accept when I am ill and need some TLC, instead of trying to carry on as usual.
