Is ill now, at the weekend she was breathing quite heavy and the way her little belly was moving I thought maybe (just maybe) there was more than meets the eye to her dropped belly.
Well after texting her old owner and confirming we weren’t going to hear the tiny patter of hooves. We decided the boy should ride after all. This is after Steve in his wisdom thought she needed to be let out of her stable to be tacked up.
And I mean literally he just let her out, Spirit was in her element no grazing muzzle and deep grass. Luckily she was more interested in a bucket of chaff. So finally after a fashion the boy got on.
He was riding her for a few minutes when she had a couple of little coughs. Nothing to big, but something she hasn’t done before when ridden. He only rode for a few minutes, before we took her in.
I think I mentioned I was up against time. So after lunging Nas I noticed spirit do a couple of coughs. Now she does have a tendency to lean over the bar of her stable which can make her breath heavy and cough.
Once back out in the field though she did a couple of big cough’s and Nas did one after a roll. Bit of a worry to say the least.
So I rang the vet, who basically said Nas needs to be scoped and he would be able to come out and do that. In the meantime he has prescribed antibiotics for spirit.
In a way though and don’t get me wrong I don’t wish ill on spirit, but I am pleased she got it. It means its definitely some kind of infection or allergy.
Rather than the worse case scenario of it only being specific to Nas. Thoughts of copd and RAO have been going through my head. The next step is to see if the antibiotics help poor lil miss spear spear!
