‘Insert expletives’ above!
Nas is lame! Ok tell me something I didn’t know well before yesterday I would of more likely said he was un-level, or even coming up short. Yesterday however when the back lady came out she said he was very lame and in a lot of pain! Ok I have to admit when he came out of the box he did look a lot worse and it was definitely different to last time when he was doing this shuffling action.
So on back lady’s recommendation I called the vet out. Who basically agreed with my first assumption that he was foot lame and not being due to something further up. (Oh just a quick side note the back lady felt down Nas’s back and said he had a good back, she did say he was tender around his nearside shoulder but then that could be due to the way he’s been compensating).
So the vet first took of his shoes.
And you could see bruising around his toes more so on the lame side. She had a good look about basically saying she was hoping to find some pus. But that she could also feel a small pulse on that side as well so didn’t want to rule out laminitis. After not finding any, she poulticed the hoof and said to give him painkillers, anti-inflammatries and box rest. By this time he was now placing that leg forward to eat the haylage of the floor. So we walked him out a little but you could still see he was still struggling a little.
I have to admit I am a little cross for myself for calling the vet out and not going ahead with my initial thought of getting the farrier back out. On the plus side he now has some in-date pain killers, and I
obviously don’t want him to be in pain. I’ve got to go out in a bit and change the poultice, which I have to do for next three days until the vet comes back out on Friday. I’ve also asked my farrier to pop in and have a look at some point.
I’ve also been convinced into trying out something different for the greasy scabs behind the backs of his knees. Phew all this is on top of having the worse flu I’ve had in a couple of years, which is one of the reasons why I couldn’t think straight yesterday. I shall try and give daily updates….
